U Sew Academy is a private sewing institution offering short courses that are practical and hands-on, suitable for hobbyists and those interested in starting their own business.
Our courses are not accredited, do not adhere to the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), The Academy is not registered with the Department of Higher Education.
Our short courses have been specifically designed by industry experts to offer you focused knowledge and understanding.
On completion, students will receive a certificate of completion , on condition that they attend all classes.
When are the courses scheduled?
Mondays to Fridays: 9:00am-16:00pm
Saturdays: 8:00am-15:00pm
Class Information : There are a maximum of 10 students per class. We are committed to offering learners individual attention & support through smaller classes and high teacher contact times.
Sewing machines are provided in the classes, however, You will need a sewing machine to practice at home, We sell sewing machines at U Sew Academy which you can purchase onsite.
What do I bring on the first class?
Enthusiasm and dedication to learn.
Each course includes A FREE equipment (listed below), supplied by U Sew Academy.
A payment of R800 is required for the manual and the Easy Pattern Maker Kit. Please budget for consumables, which vary from course to course.
How to enroll?
To enroll in the courses, please fill in the enrolment form. Once you have completed payment please email the enrolment form and proof of payment to info@usewacademy.co.za
Are there full time courses?
Unfortunately, there are only part-time courses.
Our courses are open to individuals, 16 and above, with a passion for fashion and no prior experience is required.
Are the fees refundable?
No, they are non-refundable.( Terms & Conditions)
Is there a registration fee?
We do not charge a fee however a 30% deposit is required to secure your spot in class.
Are the fees required in full?
Full payment of the course fees must be paid in advance before the start date. Any student who registers for a course/workshop is liable for the total course/workshop fee, irrespective of whether or not the student completes the course . The person responsible for fees payment will be held accountable to U Sew Academy for covering the expenses of repairing any damage caused to its property by the student.
+ How long does it take to learn to sew?
This is definitely an “it all depends” type question but you should plan of spending a few hours per week to not only learn the basic sewing techniques, but also to practice what you’ve learnt. The amount of time it takes actually to start sewing varies between Individuals. Depending on how fast you pick up on the skills needed, it could be anywhere between one to two weeks or a couple of weeks to learn how to do basic sewing
Please note : U Sew Academy reserves the right to modify a course details, which might affect the course modules or the duration of the class. The starting dates for courses may be subject to change based on the minimum number of students enrolling for the course.
